Dementia-friendly Alton
Vicky Sneader, the Care Coordinator at Home Instead Alton, took the plunge in December when she completed the zip wire challenge, 520 metres above ground and 1560 metres long, raising money for the Alzheimers Society. We are delighted to announce that her endeavours have raised in excess of £200!
Vicky said “As Care Coordinator my role is to organise care and companionship for the elderly in their own homes so this challenge was something very different. On the day I managed to keep my eyes open for the whole experience, it was truly fantastic. I flew down and picked up a lot of speed before levelling out over the top of a blue lake, before then dipping again to slow down before I hit the cushion. I finished the ‘Big Zipper’ in 54 seconds; it sounds incredibly fast, but time seemed to slow down whilst I was flying. I had the chance to spot things I didn’t think I’d be able to see, such as stone formations, birds flying near me and the plants in the lake.
I’m so glad I completed the Zip Wire Challenge; it’s combated my fear of heights and I plan to do something similar this year for charity.
So far I’ve managed to raise £213.75, with online and offline donations. There are still donations coming in. I was absolutely ecstatic to raise money for such a worthy cause. I definitely can’t wait to do it again in the future.
Now the question is what I will do next to raise more money, which next time will be for our local Dementia Group, Dementia-friendly Alton!?"
Well done Vicky!
